Enterprise Day with primary schools

Year 6 students from both ARK Little Ridge and ARK Blacklands Primary Academies attended an Enterprise Day at ARK William Parker Academy last week. It was run jointly by ARK 6th formers as part of their Business Studies A level. Their role was to assist with the general planning and running of the event as part of their assessment. The Year 6 students started the day designing a Halloween themed product, which they then made, using a variety of materials and processes. Later in the day they created and videoed their own short TV adverts promoting their products. The students got to grips with all the relevant processes that businesses go through to generate income. After a fun day, which seemed to involve a lot of glue and glitter, the students presented their ads to a judging panel. The standard of ads was quite high, but winning groups were chosen and prizes awarded. Overall, it was a great day that really brought out the best in the Year 6 students.

Toby Ling, from ARK Little Ridge, said “I had to make a Halloween decoration, so I started out with a pot and kept adding to it. I created a living monster plant, the demon eye, and I’m actually quite proud of it.”

Year 6 student, Riya Pai said, “It’s been fun, I’ve learnt lots of new things; sharing ideas; using different resources and learning woodcraft. I would love to do another Enterprise Day.’

Mrs Lorraine Apps, Event Co-ordinator said, “It was a great day; everybody really enjoyed the event and it is obvious that we have some budding young entrepreneurs in both of the primary schools. We hope this will become an annual event. ”

Jodie Nash, 6th form student, said, “It was hard work, but great fun working with the Year 6 students. Having been involved in all aspects of running this event has really inspired me to pursue a career in Event Management at University.”
